In 2007, the Cambridge Valley Community Development and Preservation Partnership, purchased the historic Delaware & Hudson Passenger Depot at 6 Broad Street. While the elegant original interior was mainly intact, components of the exterior structure had suffered from differed maintenance and deteriorated. Rehabilitation proceeded in three phases.
First, with grant support from the NYS Department of Transportation/Federal Highway Administration (NYSDOT/FHWA) and local donations, the Community Partnership rehabilitated the historic structure’s exterior. Contractors made significant repairs to the slate roof, brick chimney and flashing, and replaced deteriorated framing and restored the wood ceiling of components of the exterior projecting eaves and platform canopy. Volunteers painted the building—bringing back the traditional dark and light green D&H color scheme.
Subsequently, with New York Main Street (NYMS) support, the Community Partnership focused on interior improvements. It repaired and refinished the floor (particularly reconstructing the southeast corner’s failing flooring system); installed a new steam boiler; and constructed two accessible bathrooms.
Finally, in 2016 the Community Partnership installed a septic tank to the north of the structure and hooked the Depot up to the 8,000 gpd decentralized wastewater system in the Freight Yard to make way for the arrival of Argyle Brewing Company’s tasting room.
